It's not underground. The office is in the center of the building with no windows. The building was originally a school and there's been major changes in the layout. There's also a loud air conditioning unit in the ceiling above, which is muffled by a double layer of ceiling tiles and 10 inches of fiberglass insulation.
But yeah, the mentality of the former occupant was questionable. Not the best worker, and she was hostile to me until I realized we were both dog owners and started talking about our dogs. After that, we were okay with each other.
