Do you remember Anonymous? That secret hacker group that was going to take on the Man and expose All The Secrets? Where are they now? No where. What have they done? Nothing. They did a few brief stunts, did a few broadcasts, wore their masks and did absolutely f*ck all.
There is/was so much corruption they could have exposed. So much information they could have leaked. So much crime to uncover. It's just... disappointing. With mainstream media failing to cover the important events of the day we;'re left with blogs, late night comedy and NPR. There's mountains of dirt to be dug and this promising group of so called good trouble makers let us down.
F*ck 'em. Put up or go back to your mother's basement.

Yes, a lot of them got bored of it eventually. It was fun for them playing cool uber hackers (and really, most weren't all that)
But there is, or was, a hard core of actual activists who took it seriously. Some of those got discouraged after the Panama Papers leaked and fuck all happened... Some lost heart after the Epstein files leaked (yes, that happened) and it just, fizzled I guess. The media never picked up on that, they needed 'official verification' was the line... which never happened of course.
But most of them went radio silent after a number of them vanished. No fuss, no announcements, just.. gone. No-one knows, and that makes it worse. There were numerous theories on the forums for awhile, and then people started to get scared and went afk. Either running silent, or just running. Some I think just moved on to other things... grew up, got a job etc.. some went on to other causes... but a number got close to something and went dark.
It's like that senator that was going to read the unredacted list of names from the Epstein files, in Congress, so it would be on record...and just never did. In fact, he suddenly decided to clam up and keep his head down.
I'm not suggesting they were silenced, or that someone 'got' to them... but I do think they were scared and chose not to poke the bear.

But something did happen! One of the investigative journalists that broke the Panama Papers mysteriously died, after her car mysteriously exploded while she was in it.
Last week, one of the rich businessmen she was investigating was acquitted of paying to have her blown up.

There's been a number of mysterious 'accidents', people's cars suddenly accelerating out of control while they brakes failed, that kind of thing.
Even though nothing is ever proven, it has the effect of scaring people.
