When I started getting severe flaking on my scalp last September I thought it was just another manifestation of my psoriasis. Then came the bleeding and scabbing and puss. After several biopsies the jury is in: Lichen Planopilaris.
Long story short, they don't know what causes it, there's some treatment and no cure. Although the scabbing and puss is gone the scarring of the hair follicles is most likely permanent.
I've lost about half the hair on top of my head. Mostly likely, permanently. They're going to try some steroid shots but the research is not looking promising.
I've become that woman who always wears bandanas and scarves and hats.
I've always wanted long hair that goes all the way to my butt, but my hair was too brittle to go much beyond shoulder length. Now, I'm half bald. It's embarrassing. It's.... depressing.
No, I am not going to get a wig.
