We want to set up a 'pantry' for extra food and other supplies in case we need to shelter in place. We'll collect a few extra things every time we go to the store. So I go to my local Big Box hardware store and grab a cheap shelving unit to store stuff on. Since I know I'm going to be doing some homeowner type things (moving and installing insulation, plaster, etc) I decide to check out some cheap disposal disk masks.

They're all out. The clerk said at people were buying them up to protect against the corona virus.

The clerk and I exchange disgusted looks. He said they might have more next week. I told him that was okay and without the proper dust protection I'll just have to procrastinate a while longer. This brought a smile to his face.

People are idiots.

Just more proof that common sense has been bred out of the species.

Honestly, the cheap paper dust masks would do more harm than good. Trapping a bubble of air in front of the mouth and nose while at the same time doing nothing to stop the virus particles.

You want protection against that, you need a minimum of a full face mask with a N95 filter or better.

That said, good luck finding any.. the filters are all made in Taiwan and Korea.
