.. we've had a lot of power outages. After 6 to 9 inches of heavy wet snow it closed the roads and brought down a lot of trees. Even though the roads are clear and dry most schools are still closed due to lack of power. Just walking around our neighborhood I noticed a lot of downed branches = we have some in the back yard. We were lucky - we didn't lose power or internet.
I think we really need to look at our infrastructure. Sometimes doing the simple stuff like clearing out trees that might fall onto power/cable lines would save *a lot* of time and money in the long run.

When a lot of places have bridges that are literally falling apart and in danger of collapse for lack of maintenance, I doubt there's money in most budgets for tree clearing...
That said, skimping on preventative maintenance gets very expensive later.
