Exploding pagers and walkie-talkies?

Seems like *somebody* sold Hezbollah a lot of pagers and walkie-talkies with explosives in them. It's hard for me to sort out how I feel about this. I mean... doing something that will result in killing and maiming maiming your enemy, the intelligence gathered to make sure these devices reached (mostly) the Bad Guys, even putting together exploding consumer electronics by the thousands... that took a lot of geek skillz.

Innocents being maimed and killed - not good.

So looking at all the technical, intelligence and logistical chops it took to pull this off I think the word I want to use to describe this operation is...

... diabolical.

I don't think it's going to help in the long run. Especially now that people know it can be done... it's going to get done again.

Not good. Not good at all.

Did they though? LiPo batteries can go off with quite a bang if they're overcharged and mishandled. I'm thinking it's possible they managed to implement a firmware hack of the battery management system and used the battery itself as an explosive.

Still diabolical, but not as involved as intercepting and modifying thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies. It would also be limited to only those units that used a BMS that Israel had identified an exploit for.

Yeah.

This is going to have nasty spillover effects into so many other places.
