Yup... the warning signs have been there for a couple of decades now, it's just that they are starkly obvious now. Civilization is not starting to collapse, it's collapsing and has been for some time... but it's a slow process at first, although the rate accelerates towards the end as social systems erode to the point of failure.

Maybe we can fix it, but that's very doubtful, best we can do is brace for impact and try to rebuild afterwards towards a stable and sustainable way of life... although again, it's doubtful. We've strip-mined too many easy to access resources and without our current technological base we can't access the harder to get resources. Best we can hope for is a sort of late medieval to steampunk kind of tech base with who knows what sort of social structure.
