This is sort of a follow up on my last entry on "wasting time with old hardware and software". I collected all my old IDE hard drives and tried to see if any of them still worked and/or had valuable stuff on them. Only one did: an old back up drive from 20 years ago. It had some old writing and pictures of our dog. I was able to retrieve them and save them to a newer drive.

Then I took a hammer to them all.

IDE drives are ancient. So are any computers that have IDE connections on their motherboard. Most of those systems are 32 bit only and 32 bit operating systems are getting rarer to find and run. So three machines are going to the recycle place: a Win 98, and two XP machines. Two boot, one is completely dead. There will be no salvage: the drives with be wiped and the rest recycled.

I don't have time to mess with this anymore and I really don't have much interest anymore either.

For too long I've gotten by on second/third hand me downs and things rescued and repaired. At this point, it's no longer worth my time. I have enough stuff to play with.

EDIT: instead of electronically wiping the remaining drives I went straight to Hammer Time. It was both sad and satisfying at the same time.
