My stereo amp apparently died recently while I was attempting to hook up my new digital TV tuner/recorder.  It powered on and the tuner seemed to work but there was no sound.  This massively bummed me out as I've had it for some time and it sounded great.  It's a Pioneer.

However, when the station was cleaning out one of old video editing rooms they were going to toss a stereo amp.  Magpie me snagged it along with with a 24" Imac, two 20" Apple monitors and an original Cheese Grater Mac Pro.  And they all worked - including the stereo amp!  It's a Sony.  it had lots more inputs than the Pioneer.  I was about to swap up the old amp out when I decided I'd fiddle with the speaker controls one last time.  *crackle crackle*  - "This is NPR"     The amp was pretty dusty, could a simple squirt of contact cleaner revive my old stereo?

I sprayed the selector switches and the headphone jack.  The volume pot looked sealed so I didn't attempt to clean it .  Dried it out and YES!  May speakers were burbling NPR once again.

Even though the Sony has more inputs, I decided to keep the Pioneer in place.  Fewer inputs means simpler use.  I didn't like the way the Sony input selector worked anyways.  It was fussy.

And since I had the contact cleaner out I turned my attention to a *really* old stereo that I found in the trash.  Did I mention I'm a magpie?  Similar symptoms: it powers on, the tuner tunes but there's no audio.  Open that puppy up,, soaked *all* the pots, blew it dry and TA-DA!  Classic rock comes pumping out my headphones.  The tuning is off by several megahertz up but that I can tweak.

Don't ask me what I'm going to do with two extra stereo amps.  Just let me bathe in the joy of fixing or rescuing things.

I've been busy clearing out a lot of junk tha I've collected and don't really need.  I mean, I don't need four 4x3 computer monitors, a cranky laptop and a dead desktop.  Two are enough.  I'll sort through the larger monitors soon.  I've got extra keyboards, mice, WIFI boxes, stuff.  Dead stuff goes to the recycle place while the monitors, mice and keyboards will go to Goodwill.  It's going to take a while to get things sorted and removed but with the extra stuff gone it will free up space both physical and mentale.

It's just taking a bit of time.
