Calling all guitarists...

...I need your advice.

When I was playing guitar I was never very good at it and now that I'm trying it again I'm still pretty crappy. However, my major stumbling block right now is pain. I'm developing some lovely callouses on the tips of my fingers (which is good) but my wrist is killing me. I can only play for a few minutes before I have to stop.

Any pointers for strengthing those wimpy wrist muscles?

Can you change the angle at which you hold the guitar, so you're not stressing your wrist? Make it higher or lower? Also, is this a classical or a steel-string guitar? I'm guessing steel string.

There are grip exercisers you can get at music stores that are good for strengthening both fingers and grip. They have fingertip pads to push on and steel springs inside them, and depending on how you hold one of them it can work on the thumb, the hand itself or the wrist.

One I heard, but haven't tried...get a heavy hacky-sac or a baseball. Play throw & catch a lot.
