I put aside a banana to eat with my bagel and cheese for dinner last night. I forgot about the banana until later that evening and ate it all by itself. It had a few bruises and was a little sweet but it tasted fine.

Until a few minutes after I ate it. My stomach *hurt*. A lot. I tried to sleep but could not.

Later that night I vomited it out. Just the banana. It took two tries about half an hour apart. Yikes. I tossed out the rest of the bananas.

So I stayed home today. I was in no shape to drive let alone work. I did work about an hour remotely with one of my spare systems but I was too sick and tired and stomach hurty to get much done. Also, the system at home was missing a few passwords so I couldn't to certain things. I'll copy the passwords tomorrow when I head back to work.

It's been quite some time since I had such a bad reaction to food. I'll be avoiding bananas for awhile.

Bananas are usually considered pretty safe foods - hardly anybody is allergic to them, and they recommend them as bland food for someone with an upset stomach. (The BRAT diet for children with diarrhea - Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast but jam not butter).

Without a gall bladder to help me digest fat, I can't pig out on chips. (I can't pig out on bacon, dammit!)

And for Juneteenth, I'm making fried chicken and cornbread for supper - my fried chicken is well-drained, and New England style cornbread has one egg and a bit of melted butter in it.

Cornbread is easy to make. And many grocery stores carry various mixes - cornbread, "hush puppy mix", and such (I believe the brand name is White's), in small boxes that make just enough for a family meal. Just don't buy store-baked cornbread; it usually tastes terrible.

But over my 76 orbits around the sun, I've managed to learn how to cook a lot of different things. So if I make dinner for friends, they usually like it.

Well, I'm probably not going to make barbecue next year, although it would be appropriate. And I don't like red drink. I'm also not going to serve watermelon for dessert. When I was a kid, we use to save the watermelon rinds, and pickle them. My dad loved pickled watermelon rind, especially if we put a lot of whole cloves in it.

You like cornbread? It's easy to make, and you can buy little boxes of cornbread mix in the supermarket (I think the brand name is White's). So you'll need some eggs and milk and oil (or melted butter).
