The last time I was down with a cold/flu type illness was just before COVID hit. I've been masking and isolating every since. I'm vaxxed to the max and all that good stuff.

I got that lung thing going around.

The first symptoms hit last Saturday when I was deep cleaning my room. There was a lot of dust and I discovered how badly my carpet was decaying. I pulled it out and washed the floor several times. There was a lot of carpet grit. My lungs starting hurting soon after and I developed a bad cough. I thought it was just the dust and dirt I stirred up..

My housemate had something similar starting the day before. She went to the clinic and was told to rest, rest, rest. I still went to work but was feeling poorly. By Wednesday I had to admit it was not dust but some kind of infection. I took some time off but still worked from home Although I have a fantastic trainee, there's stuff only I can do well so I really needed to do the work.

I've been trying to sleep more, nap more and do more fluids but I expect a long recovery period. Still, I've avoided most of the icks that have been floating around the past few years. It was only a matter of time before something broke through.

I woke up from another bad night of hot sleep with a banging headache and feeling dizzy. I barely made it to the bathroom to pee and went right back to bed.

My housemate noticed I was still abed and managed to get me to drink a whole bottle of water. Then they got me in a cool shower which wasn't pleasant but revived me a little. After I emailed my boss to let them know I was *not* coming into work we got breakfast and then we're off to the the Walk-In clinic. The checked me out, took urine and blood and gave me more water. I've been slowly reviving: I was able to walk out of the clinic without support.

More water, lunch, more water and I napped in the computer room which has air conditioning. I'm slowly getting better: able to walk about without major dizziness but I'll be working from home for the rest of the week.

Stay cool, stay hydrated.

Having Irritable Bowel Syndrome sucks.

I've been doing okay until Monday morning when I barely made it home in time from the grocery store. The cramps have been so bad it's left at the point of tears. I've been eating a lot of oatmeal (when I do eat) with bananas. Naps in the afternoon help.

Fortunately I've been working from home. I've also stopped drinking coffee as it is very acidic. I can probably live without coffee... but I just don't want too. I'm holding off any intake of coffee until my gut settles down. When I work at home I drink less but the quality is better.

Gallstones to be specific.

Two bouts of severe GI distress sent to to the walk in clinic with GI distress and black stools. Since I drank some Pepto earlier in the week to soothe things that may be why the stools were black.

They ordered blood work and an Ultra sound. The blood test came back good - no blood loss, no signs of cancer, but the ultra sound found a polyp inside my gall bladder and some gall stones. Since I was still walking and talking they deemed it benign for the moment - no rush to surgery - and put me on a BRAT diet. (Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast.)

My middle hurts like I had a boxer do me in from the inside. I'll be working remotely: the bathroom is closer and if I want to take a nap in the afternoon no one is going to mind.

I see the gastro gal next week.
