I have a Youtube channel: Malada Media Labs. It's mostly me fixing up or playing with old computers, with a few Second Life videos.

One thing I've always tried to do is create my own music for each video. I use LMMS - typically used to create 'Beats' and similar style music. Fruity Loops and FL Studio is similar. To be honest, I'm not terribly talented but I've got a little music theory training and I wander outside the basic sounds that come with LMMS adding interesting soundfonts and VSTs to make the sound richer and more varied. I've had a few videos with pretty bad music... but I think I'm getting better at it as time goes on.

I uploaded my latest video Sunday night and was surprised to get a comment on it come Monday. They found the video informing and said my music reminded them of the German band Kraftwerk.

*smiles*

*soft happy glow*

Aside of their song 'Autobahn' I've never listened to any Kraftwerk, but having my music sound like *something* makes me feel good.

Just let me say that with the crazy election, crazy holiday plans and incompetence in some of the people I work with, I've fallen behind in some essential paperwork that I use for work.

We do a lot of Google sheets and Google docs and I haven't been keeping an accurate track on line of things. I've been getting my job done... it's just not been clearly documented.

When my boss found serious discrepancies in the report she was really, really upset and I thought she was going to chew me out for falling behind. Instead, she reaffirmed her faith in my work and was mostly concerned that if something happened to me, she'd be unable to track what I had done.

It's been like drinking from a fire hose at work. I've had to put in overtime and weekend hours just to keep up. And the rampaging virus isn't helping either. My housemate is now afraid to go out to the grocery store so before work today I did a big run to help plump up our stock.

It's good to see we have extra food stashed away.

We'll be hitting the wall soon, with those infected during Thanksgiving just showing up. Then there will be Christmas and New Years infections because... people are idiots and really just want to party like it's 1999.

It ain't. Come January the fertilizer will be hitting the air mover ... big time. I'm pretty sure we'll have enough food and other goods to hunker down through January although I'm sure I'll be doing another early morning shopping trip in the next week or two.

There's a Thanksgiving dish that's made with sweet potatoes, apple slices, and spiced with a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon. It's usually topped with marshmallows and baked in the oven.

Well, we ran out of marshmallows. That's okay - we'll just slather it with gravy later.

But I was in a bit of a rush... sweet potato's mashed, apple slices mashed... where's the cinnamon? Ah, there's that tall bottle with the big C on it - I'll just carefully sprinkle some in.

Ah...that doesn't smell right.

I turn the bottle to properly look at the label.

Cumin.

I scrapped what I could off, found the cinnamon (and added extra), added more brown sugar and then added another apple, put it in the oven and hoped for the best.

Well.....

Cumin is pretty powerful. It was... interesting.

I usually make it a point of eating my mistakes so I don't repeat them. It's edible if you mix enough gravy and stuffing on it.

At least the chicken, corn and stuffing came out okay.

I am thankful that I could sleep in. I've slept very poorly the past week and I was glad not to have to get up at 6:30 in the darkness.

My sister in law is visiting my mother and law (and taking care of the dear woman) and mentioned missing her bicycle.

We have a bicycle.

It's forty years old, but not a lot of miles on it. However, I never got around to putting it back together after buying new tires for it *mumblety mumble* years ago.

So I finally got around to pumping up the tires and ... how does this thing go back together? I had in issue with the derailer and the back brakes - but I got it figured out. Yah 3 in 1 oil! Got out the old bike helmet and did a short hop around the block.

Starting off down hill, I remembered how much fun this used to be. Then I checked the brakes...the front brakes are okay if noisy but had I loosened the back brakes to get the rear wheel back on - the back brakes didn't work at all! The derailer still worked but the cables have stretched so it's hard to properly shift gears. Top that off with my balance being rather iffy nowadays I only dumped myself twice! Fortunately, it was when I had slowed down to almost a stop.

My sister in law will not be using this bike.

I'm sure with new cables, brake pads, fresh grease and a proper adjustment of the cables it'll be fine. Maybe in the spring I'll take it to a shop and let a professional do that. Could use some new reflectors too. However, I think my bike riding days are over.

Didn't do anything for dinner but we've got some canned sweet potato, a jar of turkey gravy and stove top stuffing. We might pick up a chicken tomorrow, depending on how mad the grocery stores are, and have a Thanksgiving supper a day late.

Just had to get one last shout out...

Trump and his family have decided to do Thanksgiving at the White House instead of flying down to the Trump estate in Florida.

He's hunkering down.

He'll do Christmas and New Years at the White House because he doesn't want to leave... doesn't want to admit defeat... doesn't want to face the possible lawsuits and coming due loans... doesn't want to lose face.

He doesn't want to face reality.

I think he's afraid that if he leaves town the Secret Service will change the locks on him. I doubt that will happen until January.*

Maybe he's hoping Vanilla ISIL will come with their Trump flag festooned trucks and their AR-15s and keep him in power.

I'm hoping that COVID-19 will take care of the 'militias' as they're mostly conspiracy loving, mask hating fools.

*I think Melania will bolt for NYC and divorce his ass. If she's as much a grifter as her husband is she's probably got enough assets stashed away to keep herself comfortable.

Another press conference by the legal clown car that is Trump's lawyer team has melted down with references of CONSPIRACY! HUGO CHAVEZ (isn't he dead?) SECRET SERVERS IN GERMANY! GEORGE SOROS! - all without a shred of evidence.

Even with Guliani's hair dye streaming off his head I'm not laughing.

I laughed when Trump rode down the golden escalator when he began is run for presidency.

I laughed when the Republicans were in complete disarray with third rate candidates *who couldn't lay a glove* on the buffoon that was Trump.

I stopped laughing when nearly half of America voted that lying, racist, tax cheating sociopath into office.

No matter how crazy, how pathetic, now *utterly insane* the antics of the Trump administration have gotten I haven't been laughing.

Because they're serious. Deadly serious.

They don't care about facts, they don't care about science, they don't even care about their supporters - they only want to wield power: power over people, the world, even reality itself... as long as they don't have to pay the consequences. And historically, they haven't. Grifters rarely do.

It may be comical but it's not funny. They only care about fooling enough people to shake down as many people as they can and run.

From Cheryl Rofer over at my favorite blog "Balloon Juice" about Joe Biden and the COVID-19 response:

"There’s a tradition for the President-Elect to avoid competing with the President, but there is no competition here, because, even as more White House staff are infected with the virus, Trump continues to do nothing."

"No competition." That's going to leave a mark.

It's the Saturday after election day and they're still counting. I'm nervous and on edge still... but I'm okay with waiting a little while longer.

Count every vote.

If Biden has won, make damn sure of it by counting every, single, vote.

Even if he has won, there is still the toxic dump that is the racist, sexist, elitist, science-denying, fascist scum that needs to be scrubbed from the minds of the possibly brain-washed masses that voted for Trump.

The true believers... the Vanilla ISIL gangs... let the FBI deal with the domestic terrorists.

Personally, I think the best thing that could happen is Biden/Harris waits until all the votes are counted... either later today or tomorrow... then wait until the Monday news cycle to hit to make the Big Announcement. That will seriously troll Trump.

I've heard that Big Baby Donnie has declared that he'll only leave the White House being dragged, kicking and screaming. I'd watch the live stream of that. However, I'd make sure he doesn't try to steal the artwork, the china and the silverware before he exits. And yeah, I totally believe he'd try to do that.

And bring in the steam cleaners and the CIA to search out the bugs that might have been planted. Trump seems to be the type to punch holes in the walls* and steal the light bulbs before he goes.

-m

*except he's too weak to do that. Maybe he'll have Donnie Junior do that

Even with the election still undecided at this point - this I know:

A large percentage of the American population is either deluded or evil: they voted for Trump.

I'm not blaming the media on this - although they do share some of the blame - the information is out there. Tax cheat? Well known. Racist? Well documented? Liar? The evidence is overwhelming. Spouse abuser? How does four marriages stack up?

Swindler? Trump University. Successful businessman? How many bankruptcies has he had? The list goes on and on.

And for fluff's sake... *look at him*. With his phony hairstyle, love of the Village People's YMCA, and the whole *look at me! look at me!* attitude he's a straight Queen. He even uses makeup! Badly too.

Instead voting for a decent, kind, hard working man that is Joe Biden - they went with the abuser, the racist, the liar. Between - not the lesser of two evils - but someone who is by any standards Good, and one Evil, they went for the Evil. Bigly.

But more than that, a large number of American nod their head in agreement at his actions. Rip children from their parents and put the kids in cages? Perfectly fine with that. Killing Black people for breathing? Completely cool with that. Oppose well established scientific knowledge? Climate change is a hoax - I want my SUV! COVID-19 response? Here - drink some bleach!

I could go on and on....

They went in wide eyed to the polling booth and pulled the lever marked EVIL.

Many people claim we should try to understand the Trump voter. I understand them very well, thank you very much.

Bastille Day

Music: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
Lyrics: Neil Peart

There’s no bread let them eat cake
There’s no end to what they’ll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth

But they’re marching to Bastille Day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Free the dungeons of the innocent
The king will kneel, and let his kingdom rise

Bloodstained velvet, dirty lace
Naked fear on every face
See them bow their heads to die
As we would bow as they rode by

And we’re marching to Bastille Day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Sing, o choirs of cacophony
The king has kneeled, to let his kingdom rise.

Lessons taught, but never learned
All around us anger burns
Guide the future by the past
Long ago the mould was cast

For they marched up to Bastille Day
La guillotine – claimed her bloody prize
Hear the echoes of the centuries
Power isn’t all that money buys

I've been an Ubuntu user for about 10 years... first with the older Gnome 2 desktop then I switched to Xfce desktop....

... because I *hate* Gnome 3. And I despised the Unity desktop which Ubuntu tried to shove down their user's throats. They tend to do that occasionally only to have parts of their user base up and fork off. That's why there is several distros based on Ubuntu.

(Which is based on Debian which was my original distro.)

But I'd like to try out some different distributions for a change.

I put together a pieces parts machine and started playing with Linux Mint. I really like the way they have things set up... but disabling Synaptic for snagging packages and programs made that a deal breaker. Restricting people to just their own program store is lame.

So... hey, Pop OS is popular with the Linux gaming community! Maybe I can play some Steam games....

(After the install)

POP OS IS GNOME BASED? WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME?

****SEETHE****

Oh well, I might as well kick the tires on it and see what it's like. It installed quickly but the updates are taking awhile.

Awhile being maybe an hour over WIFI.... not DAYS over ethernet for Windows systems.

If I hate it I'll probably stick with Xubuntu. It's light, fast, and understandable.

Usually when people talk about 'Randian Hell' they refer to when those people who call them Randians, or Objectivists: basically those that follow the 'philosophy' of Ayn Rand - take power in a society. It is when her 'heroes' take control and move us into a selfish, dog eat dog, money grubbing, sociopathic society.

In Trump's case, the Randian Hell comes from somewhat of the opposite - the Randian villains are charge.

In her novels Ayn Rand portraits her straw man villains as socialist, hyper-emotional, irrational, science denying parasites who suck off the goods produced by the elite, rational, productive people. In truth, the Randian villains aren't socialist or communist at all - they're just riding the socialist train to suck off the government teat. They're narcissistic, elitist con artists who've found a great way to grift off the system.

Make no mistake about it Rand's antagonists are not socialists at all. They believe in government: a government that enforces *their* rules, line *their* pockets, promotes *their* causes - not for the good of the society as a whole, but for themselves only. "Socialism for ME - Austerity for YOU." It's quite the opposite of any kind of socialism.

Rand cloaks her villains in the guise of communists or socialist - the bugaboos of the day - but they're really only evidence denying, money grubbing grifters who'll gladly burn down individuals and whole societies to line their pockets and remain in power.

Yes, the Randian hell is when her *villains* are in charge. Like they are now.

Took an early 'long lunch' from work (at home) and headed out to do early voting.

The voting place opened at 9:00 and I arrived there about 9:45. How bad could it be?

I waited half an hour.

In the rain. Smart me, I brought my umbrella. Most people where there with umbrellas, masks ... not so good at the social distancing but good enough.

Totally worth it.

Got inside and they sprayed my hands with some kind of disinfectant. Smelled lemony. Mmm. Lemony votes. I was given a disinfected pen and a freshly printed ballot!

I walked out and sang, "I'm voting in the rain... just voting in the rain!" This got me a couple of laughs (which was the whole point) and one 'Don't quit the day job!'

Totally worth it.

And now, we wait... but I feel a little better having done my part.

No COVID here... just a mild cold.

We were 99 percent sure it was just a cold but we had to make sure.

Relief.

So Trump is out of the hospital. Of course he got immediate tests, immediate treatment (unless he was stalling after he tested positive) and of course top notch care. Must be nice.

However... from what I know about COVID 19 and it's treatment, he was treated very aggressively and got out of the hospital far too quickly. Maybe he really does have an impressive constitution and was able (with aggressive treatment) to shrug off the virus - but I ain't buying it.

We'll see.

...so the Bungler in Chief got sick with the 'fake news' virus....

...what isn't so bad...

...that will go away like a miracle...

...that have killed (at this point) over 200,000 Americans...

...so how do I feel about this?

Let me tell you what's going on in our area: we've had a spike in cases - mostly from churches, restaurants and bars.

My housemate works at a school and was feeling poorly Friday - probably from lack of sleep and allergies: tired, runny nose - no fever or coughing, and took a sick day.

The school officials want her to take a COVID test. Fair enough, caution is good.

With the spike in cases it's going to be a FEW DAYS before she gets tested and ANOTHER FEW DAYS before we get the results.

So we're sitting around AT HOME both WEARING MASKS out of abundance of caution.

So how do you think I feel?

"The New York Times has obtained tax-return data extending over more than two decades for Mr. Trump and the hundreds of companies that make up his business organization, including detailed information from his first two years in office."

I think this calls for the jumbo sized popcorn tub. With extra butter.

You all have probably heard of the big regattas of Boaters for Trump recently. Yeah, nothing says privileged f*cks like people with big power boats.

I caught a video of one of the boats sinking. No masks that I could tell... and no one was wearing any life preservers.

I heard that most of the sinkings were caused by the larger boats causing large wakes, swamping the smaller vessels.

The jokes... they write themselves.

In one of our neighbor's back yard is a butternut tree. The fruit if the tree has a green, fleshy outside with a hard nut on the inside. The inside the nut has a small amount of very sweet material. You need a pick to get it out so it's not commercially viable although it was harvested in previous centuries by the Native Americans.

Squirrels love the stuff. From the activity I've seen lately we've had a bumper crop of the furry maniacs. I've seen them in groups of four hanging out on front lawns like a gang hyped up on meth - except instead of fighting they run away. We've also had an extra large dropping of butternut fruit.

The squirrels peel away the fruit which rots and stains everything to a dark brown, then leave the hard husks everywhere.

Then last night I was closing a downstairs window - the old crank out type - and the window got stuck open.

Some furry f*cker and stashed a whole fruit on the window sill.

I think this is the year I collect all the fruit that ends up on my lawn and throw it back onto our neighbor's yard. Their tree... they can deal with the fruit.

Answering a knock on my door I was greeted by a young teenager, female, wearing a tank top and shorts, saying she's collecting money for hospitals so they can buy protective gear.

No purse, no clipboard, nothing. AND NO MASK.

Good gods girl, if you're going to try to scam people put a little effort in it.

I'm sorry I didn't pull out my cellphone and take her picture... just to scare her.

I waved her away without a word. Then I went upstairs and watched her through the window as she went to a few other doors. She seemed to hesitate at every doorstep and paced back and forth on the sidewalk before attempting another. I don't think she got a single person to respond.

After a few more tries she started walking down the street without stopping to scam anyone else. I'm wondering if she'd been pressured into it because it was obvious her heart wasn't in it.
